Real-time subtitling (respeaking)
WHAT IS IT?
Respeaking is a real-time subtitling technique in which the respeaker listens to the speaker through a headset and simultaneously summarizes/repeats the speech to a speech-recognition software, which writes the text in the computer. At the same time, the respeaker corrects and transforms the written text into subtitles through special software. Like in simultaneous interpreting, the respeaker should alternate with a colleague every twenty or thirty minutes.
WHERE IS IT USED?
In a conference, the respeakers work ON SITE in a soundproof both or REMOTELY and the subtitles are projected onto the computer screen of the attendees or onto a big screen. In a TV programme, the subtitles are transmitted through Teletext.
WHEN IS IT USED?
The respeaking technique can be used for producing both intralinguistic subtitles for a non-hearing audience and interlinguistic subtitles for an audience not speaking the source language. In this case simultaneous interpreting and respeaking can be combined through a simultaneous interpreter and a respeaker or through a respeaker-interpreter who simultaneously carries out both services.
WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOU?
I can offer the conference respeaking service on site or remotely in ITALIAN. For conferences in a non-Italian language, I can also combine the respeaking service with simultaneous interpreting, in order to produce the real-time subtitles of my interpretation. In this case, I can simultaneously interpret and respeak in the following language combinations: - ENGLISH > ITALIAN - GERMAN > ITALIAN - FRENCH > ITALIAN
